Heroin king pins, double-agents, and the dark side of working for the intelligence service. These are the themes of The Romeo Section, and it’s back for a second season. If you can, binge-watch the first season. But be careful, if you like a love-affair with strong storylines and low flash-bang levels, this one will most definitely have you hooked.

Showrunner Chris Haddock created this brilliant series and it is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their comfy couches. After much success with his shows Intelligence and the DaVinci titles, it was time for a new plot, an even juicier one. He’s been around the block a while, starting with MacGyver back in the ’80s, and having been a producer and writer for HBO’s Boarwalk Empire. Haddock has said this new show, #RS, is “really about the fact that we’re all spies and informants in some way.”

Wolfgang McGee, played by Andrew Arlie, sets up his undercover shop as a college professor in Vancouver upon returning from his assignment in Hong Kong. In this show, everyone is watching everyone, assuming bad deeds are going on at every corner. This is a cerebral thriller at its core, and it’s all about the relationships people form with each other, what each will gain and lose, and who will remain in power. Observation is the intelligence community’s greatest weapon, and the cycle is never complete. Nobody is really at the top, as everybody is tasked with keeping an eye out on somebody.

RS season 2 premiered on October 5, 2016. In season 2, viewers will see the exchange of the actress who played the character Lily Song, who will now be portrayed by Leeah Wong (Intelligence). Also, there is the addition of Brandi Alexander playing Lana. Wolfgang, Rufus, and the rest of the cast from the first season remain strong assets to this amazing show. Taking on attempted terrorist attacks is no easy feat, but they are jumping in this season with episodes that are darker than ever, and scenes more beautifully shot than anything viewers may have seen before. This not a show to miss!

The series has received critical acclaim for the first season, and the second is already shaping up to match that response. IMDb voters rank the series at 7 out of 10, with viewers commenting about the overall stellar acting performances, the hidden plot reveals, and the fact that there is finally an espionage show that doesn’t feed the audience everything; thinking for oneself is a virtue often ignored in television, and fans of this show will stick around for this reason alone.

There hasn’t been any official announcements from the network or production company about future seasons yet. It would be hard to believe this one will get cut short, but there also hasn’t been any viewership information released either. If the show is gaining fans and viewers, with such a talented group of cast and crew, it would shock anybody if it gets cancelled.

#RS airs on Wednesday nights at 9pm on CBC. You can binge-watch the first season and watch all new episodes the day after they air online at CBC.ca.
