DreamWorks Dragons is an American CGI animated series which is based on the 2010 feature film How to Train Your Dragon. It first aired on Cartoon Network on 2010, but moved to Netflix in 2015. The series is created by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBois and is produced by DreamWorks Animation. Linda and Mike Teverbaugh serve as the executive producers.
The series follows the continuing adventures of dragon trainer Hiccup and his dragon Toothless. The dragon riders who were so popular in the feature film are also a big part of the series. As the series progresses it seems as though there are always new enemies lying in wait as well as new dragons that need to be trained as Hiccup and Toothless continue to explore new worlds.
DreamWorks Dragons has been well received by fans and critics alike. It garners a great deal of praise for the fantastic visual effects and the way it has so effortlessly picked up the movie's narrative. The series ranked number one in the Boys 2 to 14 demographic while on Cartoon Network and although Netflix does not release such data we can only assume that it has continued to be as popular there. The series has picked up a number of accolades over the years including a Prime Time Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation in 2013 and several Annie Awards in categories such as Outstanding Achievement for Character Animation, Directing in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production and Music in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production among others.
You are likely to thoroughly enjoy DreamWorks Dragons if you are already a fan of the movie How to Train Your Dragon. You will also enjoy it if you watch series such as Kung Fu Panda and Monsters vs Aliens.
