Billy & Billie

Billy and Billie is an American romantic comedy television series created by playwright Neil LaBute (Nurse Betty, Lakeview Terrace) for DirecTV’s Audience Channel.

Billy and Billie are a cute couple who live in New York City and have recently started dating. The one wrinkle is that they’re stepsiblings. When their families blended, they were kids, and neither one too happy about the new family arrangement. Their early years were spent being mean to one another. But now they’ve entered a romantic relationship and things are going to get weird.

Or not that weird. While the show definitely plays with the taboo factor of a stepsibling relationship, often forgetting to add the step when they introduce themselves to people for instance, the show takes its time dealing with it. The ten half hour episodes set a very relaxed pace as it wanders through the opening stages of the newly romantic relationship between two people who have known one another, often sharing the same bathroom, for most of their lives.

There hasn’t been much critical buzz about this show as of yet, likely due to its limited release. However, the few reviews already in are mostly positive and very interested to see how this show develops and progresses as it takes its time through this nearly taboo subject while turning romcom tropes on their heads.
