The Food Network is planning to reboot Iron Chef America with a new show called Iron Chef Gauntlet. Planning for the show has been underway for quite some time and has led to some really interesting possibilities.

They are bringing back the original host Alton Brown, and production will start next year and be released later in the same year. Food Network has an entire group of competitive cooking shows, so there has to be something particularly spectacular about this reboot to make it stand out. They have not released any details on the premise, or how closely it will follow the original series, if at all. About the only information they are offering is that there will be ‘twists’ on the original format, and that could mean pretty much anything.

The original Iron Chef was a champ for the network that went on for a full 12 seasons, propping up stars like Bobby Flay, Michael Symon, Marc Forgione, Masaharu Morimoto, Alex Guarnaschelli and Geoffrey Zakarian. How the original worked was by having one celebrity chef each season go up against challengers for the glorious title of Iron Chef. For what it’s worth, the competition was always fun. The show did a really good job of not favoring one opponent over the other, and was very authentic.

Food Network redid the show which was originally a big hit in Japan during 1999. Their new spin on the original format was enough to make it stand out in the states, with a lot of people really looking forward to seeing who would get the Iron Chef title. If this new series works out as expected, fans will get to see some of the old magic that made the original show so great.

What did you think of the original show? Will the new series be able to live up to the hype?
