I Love Kellie Pickler is a reality show currently airing its second season on CMT. The show follows country singer and former American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler in a docu-comedy style. The show covers the madcap relationships between Pickler with her friends, family, and husband, Kyle Jacobs. Kyle is the opposite of his wife in many ways, making for many humorous interactions between the couple.
#LoveKelliePickler is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and 51 Minds Entertainment with executive producers Ryan Seacrest, Kellie Pickler, Kyle Jacobs, Christian Sarabia and Jennifer McGrogan. Jayson Dinsmore and Morgan Selzer serve as executive producers for CMT.
In the second season, Kellie and Kyle’s families take center stage, and a whole new set of wacky and interesting scenarios are awaiting the couple. These include a trip to Japan and a behind-the-scenes look at their preparation for Celebrity Family Feud. Kellie will also attempt various occupations over the season, including revisiting her first job as a Sonic waitress and attempting to become an Uber driver for charity, though her lack of directional sense may hinder this particular idea. Reviews of the show range from mixed-to positive. While some feel that the situations that Pickler and Jacobs find themselves in come off as a bit contrived, she and her personality are a good fit for a reality show, especially one that does not take itself too seriously.
At the moment, there is a serious dearth of ratings information on LKP. This is in the face of a very successful first season, which served as CMT’s highest rated premiere among women aged 18-49 since 2008. However, this is one rare situation where even a underperforming ratings situation may not necessarily be extremely damaging to the show’s chances at a third season. #LKP, along with Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team and Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge, are the three foremost shows of CMT’s unscripted lineup.
In a statement from Jayson Dinsmore, Executive Vice President of Development at CMT, he explained that “CMT’s unscripted series mirror the optimism and passion of our fans… Our shows are smart, spirited and play an important role in attracting new audiences.” Clearly, unscripted shows are an important component of the network’s future plans, something that the initial success of #LoveKelliePickler may have started. With this in mind, it is very likely that we will see a third season, even if the second season does not meet expectations, if for no other reason than to try and keep this unscripted initiative going
